Who Are We?
The Yarra Ranges Children's Choir was established in 1999 and is open to all children who love singing. Thanks to generous support from the Shire of Yarra Ranges, local service groups and businesses, we are able to provide sequential, affordable and ENJOYABLE music tuition to all children, regardless of their musical ability or financial means. The choir was established to meet this very great need in the local community, as many of the schools in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges area do not have a trained music teacher.
The aims of the choir are
* Joy in musical and social participation * Equal access for all interested and committed children * Excellence in choral music education * Service to the Yarra Ranges Community * Commitment to the development and performance of quality Australian choral music
The choir began as an ensemble for children with unchanged voices, but has expanded its groups so the older boys with changing voices can keep singing, and has also welcomed parents for some programs, who have seen how much fun their children are having and want to join in too!
We have recently established an Aboriginal Children's Choir in collaboration with the local indigenous community, which is teaching Aboriginal children their traditional language and culture. One of this ensemble's aims is to save Woiwurrung, the language of the local Wurundjeri people who are the traditional landowners of the Yarra Valley and Melbourne areas.
Who Can Join?
The choir is open to all school aged children who love singing.
